Procedures

The main procedures that we perform are Colonoscopy, Upper Endoscopy or EGD, Capsule endoscopy of small bowel, ERCP and PH/Manometry as screening/treatments for colon cancer, Barrett’s Esophagus, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), diarrhea, ulcers, constipation, Ulcerative Colitis, and other conditions of the digestive tract.  Here you can find more specific information on each procedure and what it entails.

Colonoscopy

  • Colonoscopy is a procedure that lets your doctor look inside your entire large intestine.
  • It uses an instrument called a colonoscope, or scope for short.
  • Scopes have a tiny camera attached to a long, thin tube.
  • The procedure lets your doctor see things such as inflamed tissue, abnormal growths, and ulcers.

Upper endoscopy (EGD)

  • Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) is a test to examine the lining of the esophagus (the tube that connects your throat to your stomach), stomach, and first part of the small intestine.
  • It is done with a small camera (flexible endoscope) that is inserted down the throat.

Appointment went very well. Would highly recommend doctor Ferdows.

ERCP

  • Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography is a procedure that combines upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy and x rays to treat problems of the bile and pancreatic ducts.
  • ERCP is also used to diagnose problems, but the availability of non-invasive tests such as magnetic resonance cholangiography has allowed ERCP to be used primarily for cases in which it is expected that treatment will be delivered during the procedure.

Capsule Endoscopy

  • Capsule Endoscopy examines the lining of the middle part of your gastrointestinal tract, which includes the three portions of the small intestine (duodenum, jejunum, ileum).
  • Your doctor will give you a pill sized video camera for you to swallow.
  • This camera has its own light source and takes pictures of your small intestine as it passes through.
  • These pictures are sent to a small recording device you have to wear on your body.
  • Your doctor will be able to view these pictures at a later time and might be able to provide you with useful information regarding your small intestine.

Timely, Professional & friendly. Plus informative consultation. Dr. was able to relax me and told me everything I wanted & needed to know.

pH/Manometry

  • Esophageal pH monitoring is a test that measures how often stomach acid enters the tube that leads from the mouth to the stomach (called the esophagus). The test also measures how long the acid stays there.
  • Esophageal manometry is a test to measure the pressure inside the lower part of the esophagus.
